The Future with 'Ir'

Forming the Future Using 'ir a'

This is an easy way to say what is going to happen in the future. Take the present tense of 'ir' followed by 'a' and the infinitive of a verb.

Voy a hablar - I am going to talk

Vas a jugar - you are going to play

Va a hacer - he/she is going to do / you are going to do (formal)

Vamos a ir - we are going to go

Vais a vivir - you are going to live (plural)

Van a salir - they are going to go out / you are going to go out (formal plural)

Uses of 'ir a'

This simple form of the future tense is known as the immediate future.

The immediate future

The future with 'ir a' is used to refer to the immediate future.
This type of the future tense is used in the same way as 'going to' in English.
- E.g. Voy a llegar tarde.
  - I am going to arrive late.
