Radically Changing AR Verb Stems

AR verbs that have radically changing stems in the present tense have the same radically changing stems in the present subjunctive. Remember these verbs do not change in the 'nosotros' and 'vosotros' forms.

Cerrar - to close

Cerrar - to close

  • Cierre - I close.
  • Cierres - you close.
  • Cierre - he/she closes.
  • Cerremos - we close.
  • Cerréis - you close.
  • Cierren - they close.
Probar - to try, to taste

Spelling Changes ('GAR' → 'GU')

To preserve the sound 'g', verbs that end in 'gar' change the ‘g’ to 'gu' in the subjunctive. For example:
