Adjective Endings Match the Gender of the Noun

In Spanish, the endings of adjectives are different depending on if the noun they describe is masculine/feminine and singular/plural.

Masculine nouns

Masculine nouns

  • The adjective will end in 'o' or 'os' if it is talking about a masculine noun.
    • El perro (🐕) rojo (🔴).
      • The red dog.
  • Los perros (🐕) rojos (🔴).

  • The adjective will end in 'a' or 'as' if it is talking about a feminine noun.

  • A mixed group with masculine and feminine words will always take the masculine plural adjectival ending ‘-os’.
