'Strong Preterites'

'Strong preterites' differ from the general rules but still follow a pattern. They do NOT have any accents on the endings.

Andar - to walk

  • Add 'uv' at the end of the stem:
    • Anduve - I walked.
    • Anduviste - you walked.
    • Anduvo - he/she walked / you walked (formal).
    • Anduvimos - we walked.
    • Anduvisteis - you walked (plural).
    • Anduvieron - they walked / you walked (formal plural).

    • Estuve - I was.
    • Estuviste - you were.
    • Estuvo - he/she was / you were (formal singular).
    • Estuvimos - we were.
    • Estuvisteis - you were (informal plural).

  • Changes the vowel to 'i':
    • Di - I gave.
    • Diste - you gave.
    • Dio - she/he gave / you gave (formal singular).
    • Dimos - we gave.
    • Disteis - you gave (informal plural).
    • Dieron - they gave / you gave (formal plural).
