Stem Changes in the First Person Present

Some -ER verbs only have a spelling change in the first person singular (‘yo’) form. In all other forms, they follow the regular -ER endings.

Hacer - to do, to make

Some ER verbs only change their stem in the first person 'yo' form. After this, they follow the same pattern as regular ER verbs.

  • 'Saber' is used for knowing facts or how to do something.
  • 'Conocer' is used for being familiar with people, places, or things.
  • Yo sé hacer ecuaciones.
    • I know how to do equations.
  • Yo conozco a Juan.
    • I know Juan.
