Irregular ER Verbs 2

Stem Changes in the First Person Present

Some -ER verbs only have a spelling change in the first person singular (‘yo’) form. In all other forms, they follow the regular -ER endings.

Hacer - to do, to make

Hago - I do.
Haces - you do.
Hace - he/she does / you do (formal).
Hacemos - we do.
Hacéis - you do (plural).
Hacen - they do / you do (formal plural).

Poner - to put, to set (the table)

Pongo - I put.
Pones - you put.
Pone - he/she puts / you put (formal).
Ponemos - we put.
Ponéis - you put (plural).
Ponen - they put / you put (formal plural).

Traer - to bring

Traigo - I bring.
Traes - you bring.
Trae - he/she brings / you bring (formal).
Traemos - we bring.
Traéis - you bring (plural).
Traen - they bring / you bring (formal plural).

Caerse - to fall

Me caigo - I fall.
Te caes - you fall.
Se cae - he/she falls / you fall (formal).
Nos caemos - we fall.
Os caéis - you fall (plural).
Se caen - they fall / you fall (formal plural).

Stem Changes in the First Person

Some ER verbs only change their stem in the first person 'yo' form. After this, they follow the same pattern as regular ER verbs.

Conocer - being familiar with

Conozco - I know.
Conoces - you know.
Conoce - he/she knows / you know (formal).
Conocemos - we know.
Conocéis - you know (plural).
Conocen - they know / you know (formal plural).

Conocer / Saber

'Saber' is used for knowing facts or how to do something.
'Conocer' is used for being familiar with people, places, or things.
Yo sé hacer ecuaciones.
- I know how to do equations.
Yo conozco a Juan.
- I know Juan.

Saber - knowing

Sé - I know.
Sabes - you know.
Sabe - he/she knows / you know (formal).
Sabemos - we know.
Sabéis - you know (plural).
Saben - they know / you know (formal plural).

Agradecer - to thank

Agradezco - I thank.
Agradeces - you thank.
Agradece - he/she thanks / you thank (formal).

Desaparecer - to disappear

Desaparezco - I disappear.
Desapareces - you disappear.
