Masculine Exceptions

There are some nouns that are exceptions to the rule that masculine nouns end in 'o'. The following nouns are masculine but end in 'a':

El problema - the problem

El idioma - the language

El día - the day

El sistema - the system

El clima - the climate

El tema - the theme

El planeta - the planet

El programa - the programme

Feminine Exceptions

There are some nouns that are exceptions to the rule that feminine nouns end in 'a'. The following nouns are feminine but end in 'o':

La mano - hand

La radio - the radio

La moto - the motorbike

La foto - the photograph

Agua - water

'Agua' is a feminine noun, but when it is used as a singular noun it uses 'el'. This only happens with the definite article.
- 'El agua'.
In the plural it uses the normal feminine form.
- 'Las aguas'.
