Rounding and Accuracy

If we round numbers then the accuracy of our calculation can change. The weight of a cooking pot to the nearest kilogram is 7kg. What is the range of possible weights of the pan?

Lower bound is 6.5. It is smallest number that rounds up to 7

Lower bound is 6.5. It is smallest number that rounds up to 7

Upper bound is 7.5. Lowest number that won't round down to 7

Upper bound is 7.5. Lowest number that won't round down to 7

  • A bag of apples weighs 4kg to the nearest kg. Which of the following is the error interval for the actual weight of the apples?

  • Terry's height is 176cm to the nearest cm. Which of the following is the error interval for Terry's actual height?

  • The length of a table is 96cm to the nearest centimetre. What is the smallest possible length of the table?
