Maths: Edexcel IGCSE Higher, topic 1.3.2

Multiplying Decimals

We multiply decimals using two simple steps:

Step 1

Step 1

  • To multiply decimals together first multiply the digits together ignoring the decimal point.
Step 2

Step 2

  • Then add in the decimal point.
  • There will be as many decimal places as the two numbers combined.

Dividing Decimals

You should be able to divide decimals without using a calculator.

Step 1

Step 1

  • First, write down the calculation in a long division equation.
Step 2

Step 2

  • Move the decimal point two digits to the right (multiply by 100).
  • This gets rid of the decimals and lets us work with whole numbers.
Step 3

Step 3

  • Calculate the quotient.
Answer

Answer
