Combustion of Elements in Oxygen
Oxygen is a very reactive element. A substance burning in air is actually reacting with oxygen. The following elements react with oxygen in characteristic ways:

Magnesium
- Burns with a very bright, white flame.

Hydrogen
- Burns quickly, producing a loud squeaky pop.

Sulfur
- Burns with a blue coloured flame, producing a colourless gas.
Test yourself on Oxygen
When magnesium reacts with oxygen, what happens?
When hydrogen reacts with oxygen, what happens?
When sulfur reacts with oxygen, what's produced?
