Solubility - Experiments
Chemistry: Edexcel IGCSE, topic 1.1.9
Investigating Solubility
Here's an experiment for investigating the solubility of a solid in water at a specific temperature.

Preparation
- Add 100 g of water to a beaker.
- Place the beaker on to a balance and record the mass.
- Slowly add the solute, stirring the solution after each amount is added to make sure that it all dissolves.
- Continue until no more solid will dissolve.

Recordings
- Record the final mass.
- Calculate the mass of solid that dissolved by subtracting the initial mass from the final mass.
- Repeat the investigation twice more and calculate a mean.
- Repeat from step one at different temperatures to allow a comparison of solubility.

When do you stop adding solute in the solubility experiment?
Which of these is not a reason for repeating the solubility experiment?
