Long-Term Responses to Earthquakes
Geography: AQA GCSE, topic 1.2.19
Long-Term Responses to Earthquakes
Immediate responses are important to limit the damage in the first instance, but long-term responses are needed to help an area fully recover from the effects of an earthquake.

Rebuild buildings and infrastructure
- Houses, buildings, infrastructure and transport systems are likely to have to be rebuilt.
- Similarly, water, gas and electricity systems will have to be repaired if they were damaged.

Improve preparation
- Building design and planning regulation may have to be redesigned and changed so that they deal with potential future earthquakes.
- Some people may choose not to stay living in the area.

Improve local economy
- Governments may provide grants to boost the local economy or to encourage tourism in the area again.
