Conversion Between Miles and Kilometres

In the UK, you measure how far (and fast) you go on roads using miles. Because of this, you need to be able to convert km to miles. You also need to be able to convert from miles to km.

Miles to kilometres

You can use a simple formula to convert from miles to kilometres.

Miles to kilometres example

How many kilometres is 5 miles?
- k = 5 ÷ 5 × 8
- k = 8 km

Miles to kilometres table

5 miles is the same as 8 km.
- You can multiply these distances to work out how many kilometres are in 10 miles, 15 miles, 20 miles, etc.

You can use a simple formula to convert from kilometres to miles.

How many miles is 16 kilometres?
- m = 16 ÷ 8 × 5
- m = 10 miles

Kilometres to miles table
