Preparation

  • Add 100 g of water to a beaker.
  • Place the beaker on to a balance and record the mass.
  • Slowly add the solute, stirring the solution after each amount is added to make sure that it all dissolves.
  • Continue until no more solid will dissolve.

Recordings

  • Record the final mass.
  • Calculate the mass of solid that dissolved by subtracting the initial mass from the final mass.
  • Repeat the investigation twice more and calculate a mean.
  • Repeat from step one at different temperatures to allow a comparison of solubility.
