  • They are: Europe, Africa, Asia, South America, North America, Oceania (or Australasia) and Antarctica.

  • When looking at the land area, Asia is the biggest continent.
    • It is over 44 million km2.
  • This is significantly bigger than Africa which is second largest.
    • It is over 30 million km2.
  • In comparison, the whole of Europe is only just over 10 million km2 in size.

The largest population?

  • The continent with the largest population is Asia with over 4 billion people.
  • This is much more than the second largest (Africa) with just over 1 billion people.
  • Asia has such a large population because it contains China and India.
    • Both of which have a population of over 1 billion people.
The smallest population?

The smallest population?

  • Antarctica is the continent with the smallest population.
    • In fact, it has no permanent population.
    • It has no indigenous population.
  • The only people who ‘live’ on Antarctica are scientists visiting to do research there.
