  • Since 1971, energy use per capita has increased from 85 kilograms of oil equivalent to 222 kilograms in 2014.

  • To improve energy security in the future the government has implemented a new initiative to promote the development of renewable energy.
    • This initiative is called the Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA).

  • The contribution of energy generation from renewables is less than 2% of total energy production.
    • This is mainly produced by solar power.
