Drumlins and Erratics

As well as moraines, glaciers can also deposit material as drumlins or erratics:

Drumlins

Drumlins

  • Drumlins are elongated hills of glacial deposits.
    • At the upstream end, drumlins are rounded, steep and blunt.
    • At the downstream end, drumlins are tapered, have a shallower relief and are pointed.
Erratics

Erratics

  • Erratics are large rocks that have been transported by a glacier and then deposited in a place that's made of another type of rock.
  • Erratics usually look very out of place in their surroundings.
