  • Some countries in the continent in Europe are part of a ‘club’ of countries called the European Union.
  • However, just because a country is in the continent of Europe, this does not automatically make it part of the EU.

  • There are about 50 countries in Europe but since 2020, the EU has 27 member countries.
    • Iceland is not in the EU, for example.
  • Britain voted to leave the EU in June 2016.

  • 20 of the 27 member countries of the EU share the same currency.
    • We say that these countries are part of the Eurozone.
