Sonnets

  • Sonnets are 14-line poems that are usually written about love.
    • Shakespeare wrote many of such sonnets.

Haiku

  • Haiku poems originated in Japan and always have three lines.
    • Haiku poems also have the same number of syllables in each line - five in the first line, seven in the second line, and five in the third line.

Rhyme

  • Poems do not always have to rhyme.
    • Sometimes poets will include a regular rhyme scheme, for example, AABB or ABAB (A lines rhyme, and B lines rhyme).
    • Sometimes poets will include no clear rhyme scheme at all.
