Reactions of Metals with Acids
Chemistry: Cambridge International GCSE Supplement, topic 7.1.2
Reaction of Metals with Acids
When acids react with metals, a hydrogen and a salt are always formed. The first part of the salt's name comes from the metal involved. The second part of the name comes from the acid.

magnesium + hydrochloric acid → magnesium chloride + hydrogen

zinc + sulfuric acid → zinc sulfate + hydrogen

iron + sulfuric acid → iron sulfate + hydrogen
Test yourself on Reactions of Metals with Acids
What are the products of reactions between metals and acids?
What would a salt be called if it was produced by reacting potassium with nitric acid?
