Naming Organic Compounds and Drawing Displayed Formulae
Draw displayed formulae for methane, ethane, ethene, ethanol, ethanoic acid, and reaction products like CO2, H2O, and dibromoethane.

Methane and ethane displayed formulae
- Methane is the simplest alkane with one carbon atom.
- Methane's formula is CH4.
- Draw methane with carbon in the centre and four hydrogen atoms around it.
- Ethane has two carbon atoms joined by a single bond.
- Ethane's formula is C2H6.
- Draw ethane showing two carbons connected and six hydrogens attached.

Ethene displayed formula
- Ethene is an alkene with two carbon atoms joined by a double bond.
- Ethene's formula is C2H4.
- Draw ethene showing the double bond between carbons.
- Attach four hydrogens, two on each carbon.

Ethanol and ethanoic acid displayed formulae
- Ethanol is an alcohol with the formula C2H5OH.
- Draw two carbons, five hydrogens, and an OH group attached.
- Ethanoic acid is a carboxylic acid with the formula CH3COOH.
- Draw ethanoic acid with a methyl group and the carboxyl group (COOH).

Products of combustion and addition
- Complete combustion of hydrocarbons produces carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O).
- Draw CO2 with carbon double-bonded to two oxygens.
- Draw water (H2O) with oxygen bonded to two hydrogens.
- Reaction of ethene with bromine forms dibromoethane (C2H4Br2).
- Draw ethane structure with two bromine atoms replacing hydrogens.

Products of fermentation reactions
- Fermentation of sugars produces ethanol (C2H5OH) and carbon dioxide (CO2).
- Draw ethanol and carbon dioxide displayed formulae as before.
