God's Covenant With Abraham

God liked Abraham and made a covenant with him. The sign of the covenant was circumcision.

Covenant

God's covenant with Abraham meant God promised to have a special relationship with Abraham, rewarding him for his loyalty and obedience.
It also meant that Abraham would have special responsibilities.

Circumcision

Any male Jew who is circumcised enters into the covenant with God and is then part of a special relationship with God.
Soon after Abraham was circumcised, Sarah (who was unable to have children) miraculously became pregnant and later gave birth to Isaac. This might be seen as a reward from Abraham’s commitment to God.
