Catholic Agencies

There are many Catholic agencies that try to fulfil the commandment to love one’s neighbour through their charitable work. Three such agencies are:

The Catholic Agency For Overseas Development (CAFOD)

CAFOD is an international aid agency based in England and Wales that works specifically to combat and raise awareness of poverty.
CAFOD's wider goals are to respond to emergencies (e.g. floods, earthquakes) worldwide, and to promote social justice.

Trocaire

Trocaire is an agency based in Ireland which acts as the official overseas development agency of the Catholic Church in Ireland.
Trocaire works abroad, mainly in developing nations, in order to protect human rights and provide humanitarian aid where it is needed most.

Missio

Missio (or The Pontifical Mission Societies) is a group of Catholic agencies under the direct control of the Pope.
Missio is the official agency of the Vatican for conducting international missions.
- In particular, these missions focus on poorer countries and countries where Christianity is an emerging faith.
