Sound Travels to Your Ear
Sounds Travel
Sounds Travel
When a sound is made by hitting a drum, the vibrations created need to travel to your ear so you can hear it.

How vibrations travel
How vibrations travel
- Solids, liquids and gases have particles that can vibrate.
- Vibrations that make sounds can be passed through solids, liquids and gases.
- Vibrations travel through solids, liquids and gases and into our ears.

Vibrations in our ears
Vibrations in our ears
- Vibrations that enter our ears vibrate our eardrum.
- The eardrum is a part of our ear.
- Our brain then converts these vibrations into sounds we can hear.

Blocking sounds
Blocking sounds
- If we wanted to hear less sound, we could use a barrier to reduce the vibrations reaching our eardrum.
- E.g. your hands can reduce the vibrations passing to our eardrums.
- E.g. ear protectors can be used to reduce the vibrations passing to our eardrums.
