A pencil case contains blue and green pens in the ratio 2 : 3. Write this ratio as a linear function:

They are in the ratio 2 : 3

Divide the left side by 2 and the right side by 3

There are twice as many blue pens as a single part of the ratio, and three times as many green pens as a single part of the ratio.
So a single part of the ratio is equal to $\frac{b}{2}$ and $\frac{g}{3}$ .
