Fractions

Fractions are used to show one number being divided by another number. Equivalent fractions are fractions which look different but represent exactly the same amount.

Numerator and denominator

The number on the top line of a fraction is called the numerator.
The number on the bottom line of a fraction is called the denominator.

Equivalent fractions

Equivalent fractions contain different numbers but represent the same amount.
To make an equivalent fraction, we must multiply or divide the numerator and denominator by the same amount.
