Gradient and y-intercept of a Line

A straight line y = mx + c has gradient m and y-intercept c.

Y-intercept

The point where a line crosses the y-axis is called the y-intercept.
The y-intercept of the line above is -1.

Gradient

The gradient of a line tells you how steep it is.
For every square you move to the right, the number of squares you have to move up is the gradient.
Gradient = change in y ÷ change in x.
