Length and Area

Length

Standard units for length are kilometres (km), meters (m), centimetres (cm) and millimetres (mm).

Imperial units

For long distances either kilometres or miles can be used.
- 5 miles is roughly 8 kilometres.
Miles are imperial (traditional) units. The other imperial units for length are feet, yards and inches.

Area

Standard units for area are square kilometres (km²), square metres (m²), square centimetres (cm²) and square millimetres (mm²).

Converting area units

To convert between different units of area, write out the measure as a multiplication and convert each part separately.
