Percentages

If an item originally costing £30 has its price risen by 50%, what is its new price?

We need to calculate a 50% increase on £30

50% increase will give 150% in total

This is the same as multiplying by 1.5 (divide 150 by 100)

So the new price is £45

Percentage Change

Format

If you are calculating the percentage increase then change = new - old.
If you are calculating a percentage decrease then change = old - new.

Example

If someone buys ingredients for £20 and sells pancakes using those ingredients for £35 then their profit is £35 - £20 = £15.
They make 75% profit as shown in the image.
