Expressing Opinion

'Estar' is used with adjectives to express feelings and states of mind (moods) instead of describing things, people and situations (estar).

Estar harto de/de que - to be fed up of

Estar harto de/de que - to be fed up of

  • 'Estar harto de' either takes an infinitive or an adjective.
    • Estoy harto de la política.
      • I am fed up of politics.
    • Estoy harto de ver anuncios.
      • I am fed up of seeing adverts.
  • If the opinion is about what a different person is doing you must use ‘de que’ followed by the subjunctive.
    • Estoy harto de que abras la ventana.
    • I am fed up of you opening the window.
Estar de acuerdo - to agree

Estar de acuerdo - to agree

  • You can use this by itself when you agree with somebody.
    • Estoy de acuerdo.
      • I agree.
  • Or you can use it with a preposition.
    • Estoy de acuerdo con la propuesta.
      • I agree with the proposal.
  • To say you disagree you would use the negative.
    • No estoy de acuerdo.
      • I do not agree.

Estar a favor de - to advocate

  • It is rarely used by itself like 'estar de acuerdo'.
    • Estoy a favor de la propuesta.
      • I am in favour of the proposal.
Estar en contra - to be against

Estar en contra - to be against

  • 'Estar en contra' is used to say that you are against something and is normally followed by the preposition 'de'.
    • Alejandro está en contra de esa norma del colegio.
      • Alexander is against that school rule.
Estar equivocado/a - to be wrong

Estar equivocado/a - to be wrong

  • 'Estar equivocado/a' can be used on its own or be followed by a preposition.
    • Estoy equivocado.
      • I am wrong.
    • Laura está equivocada sobre esto.
      • Laura is wrong about this.

Estar situado - to be located

Estar situado - to be located

  • El restaurante está situado junto al lado de la playa.
    • The restaurant is located next to the beach.
Estar en forma - to be fit/in shape

Estar en forma - to be fit/in shape

  • Estoy en forma.
    • I am in shape.
