Similarities to animal reproduction

Similarities to animal reproduction

  • Plant reproduction is similar to animal reproduction. This is because a male sex cell (pollen) must fuse with the female sex cell (an egg).
  • The reproductive organs in a plant are found in the flower.
Female parts

Female parts

  • The female parts are all together called the pistil.
  • The pistil is composed of:
    • The stigma.
    • The style.
    • The ovary.
    • The ovule.
Male parts

Male parts

  • The male parts are all together called the stamen.
  • The stamen is composed of:
    • The anther.
    • The filament.
The process

The process

  • Pollen from the anther on one plant must land on the stigma of another.
  • Here, it moves down the style towards the ovary and ovule where it will fuse with the egg.
