Current rates of resource use are unsustainable and are producing huge quantities of polluting industrial waste. Whilst the long-term goal is to limit waste as much as possible, it's important that we strive to correctly handle the waste being produced now to prevent unnecessary extra pollution.

Population size

The existence of more humans means that more resources are being used, a significant proportion of which are non-renewable.

Standard of living

Furthermore, not only are there more humans than ever before, but the standard of living required is also reaching new heights. Consequently, the production of goods is increasing.
