Human Responsibility and Accountability
This teaching is common to both Sunni and Shi'a Muslims.

Significance of humans having responsibility
- The idea is significant because it gives life ultimate meaning and urges humans to take responsibility for their behaviour and choices.

Acceptance of suffering
- Additionally, knowing that there is a place where evil is put right will help good people who suffer in their physical life to accept their suffering as temporary, since a reward of eternity in paradise will make things right for them.

Evidence from the Qur'an
- ‘The [the angels will say], “Peace for you; [you are] from the companions of the right.” But if he was of the deniers [who were] astray, then [for him is] accommodation of scalding water and burning in Hellfire.’ [Qur’an, Surah 56:90-94]
