    • This belief is very similar to the Muslim belief, where their lives are weighed in a balance of good and evil.
    • In Islam, those who have done more good are welcomed into paradise (Jannah) but those with a balance of evil in their lives are punished in hell (Jahannam).

  • The certain Christian belief is that in heaven a person is with God, but in hell, they are separated from God.

    • Some try to describe heaven in terms of the physical pleasures they enjoy on earth.
    • Others understand it is as a way their souls can be united with God.

  • Belief in hell can sometimes also be unclear, as it is mentioned rarely in the Bible.
    • “The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into a blazing furnace where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” [Matthew 13:49-50 NIV]
    • It is described by some as a place of punishment, using ideas of physical pain.
    • Others interpret it as a permanent separation from God.
