Change in Thermal Energy
Physics: AQA GCSE Higher, topic 3.2.2
Change in Thermal Energy

Formula for change in thermal energy
- The change in thermal energy equals the mass times the specific heat capacity times the temperature change.
- The specific heat capacity of a body (object) is the energy needed to increase the temperature of one kilogram of the body by 1°C.
Test yourself on Change in Thermal Energy
If the change in internal energy = 100J, mass = 10kg, and temperature change = 1°C, what is the specific heat capacity?
Which units are used to measure the change in an object's internal energy?
State the difference between thermal capacity and specific heat capacity.
