Successes of the League of Nations

The League did help solve some international issues. Their greatest success was in the humanitarian field.

The Commission for Refugees

The Commission for Refugees

  • Helped to return refugees home (once a conflict had ended) and improve the camps in which they stayed.
  • This was successful in countries such as Russia and Greece when people fled their homes because of conflict within their own countries.

  • This was successful because it helped to cure diseases internationally.
    • E.g. malaria.
  • The Committee also educated people across the world on how to prevent the disease from spreading and how to be hygienic.
    • E.g. washing your hands.
The Slavery Commission

The Slavery Commission

  • This was particularly successful in stopping slavery in countries in Africa.
  • In Sierra Leone, 200,000 people were set free.
International Labour Organisation

International Labour Organisation

  • This Organisation helped to promote better working conditions across the world.
  • One major success was getting 77 countries to introduce a minimum standard of wages in their country.
