Hitler in Power

After Hitler became Chancellor he began to consolidate (make stronger) Nazi power. He became Führer and created a dictatorship.

The one-party state

The one-party state

  • During 1933 and 1934, Hitler got rid of his political opposition.
  • Hitler passed the ‘Enabling Act’ in 1933. This voted the Reichstag (parliament) out of existence.

  • President Hindenburg died in 1934.
  • Hitler merged the roles of Chancellor and President together into the role of Führer.
  • He was a dictator.

Nazi control

  • The Nazis controlled Germany through a combination of propaganda and terror.
  • The Nazis made Hitler the focus of propaganda. They also started publishing anti-Semitic (anti-Jewish) propaganda.
  • The Nazis used the gestapo (secret police force) and the SS (the Nazi’s personal military organisation) to maintain control over the German people.
