In 1660 AD, the monarchy was restored. This period is called the ‘Restoration’.

  • In 1660 AD the Protectorate fell.
  • It collapsed because Oliver Cromwell had died in 1658 AD and no one was strong enough to lead it after him.
  • By this point, people did not like the failed political experiment of a republic and wanted the monarchy to return.
