The Global Energy Supply

Fossil fuels are currently the main source of energy for developed countries. But as concerns about climate change increase, many countries are moving towards renewable energy sources and trying to change their energy supply.  

Global demand

There are two major problems facing the global energy supply.
The first is that we need to produce more electricity and that global energy demand is growing.
- For example, by 2040, India is predicted to use 30% more energy then it does today.

Climate change

The second major problem is the need to move away from non-renewable energy sources because of climate change.
As a result, two-thirds of new power plants by 2040 are predicted to be renewable energy plants.

Fossil fuel usage

In 2015, 28.1% of global energy came from coal, 31.7% came from oil and 21.6% was from natural gas.
This means over 80% of the global energy supply was from fossil fuels.
