  • There are two major problems facing the global energy supply.
  • The first is that we need to produce more electricity and that global energy demand is growing.
    • For example, by 2040, India is predicted to use 30% more energy then it does today.

  • The second major problem is the need to move away from non-renewable energy sources because of climate change.
  • As a result, two-thirds of new power plants by 2040 are predicted to be renewable energy plants.

Fossil fuel usage

  • In 2015, 28.1% of global energy came from coal, 31.7% came from oil and 21.6% was from natural gas.
  • This means over 80% of the global energy supply was from fossil fuels.
