Population Structure in Developing Countries

The population structure of a country is usually linked to its level of development. Developing countries have a high birth rate, a high death rate and a relatively low life expectancy.

Birth rate

In developing countries, there is a high birth rate.
This can be for many different reasons, for example:
- A lack of access to contraception or a need for more children to help provide for the family.

Death rate

In developing countries, the death rate is high.
Reasons for this include:
- People dying from infectious diseases or people dying at war (if the country is at war).

Infant mortality rate

In developing countries, the infant mortality rate is likely to be high.
This is because more children die from diseases in their first year because of the lower quality of life and lower standard of healthcare.

Life expectancy

In developing countries, the life expectancy is relatively low.
People don’t live as long as in other countries because of the lower quality of life and lower standard of healthcare.
