BUG Twist
The BUG strategy (box the command word, underline the key words, glance back at the question) is a well-known technique to support pupils when applying knowledge to examination style questions

Benefits of the BUG strategy
- The BUG strategy can help make sure pupils don’t just write ‘everything they know’ about a concept or process that doesn’t directly answer the question set.

Alternative BUG strategy method
- A possible alternative to the traditional BUG strategy is to remove the command word and key words for pupils to recall with prompts.
- This could be adapted to be used at the start of a lesson or prior to pupils applying knowledge.
- The next slide contains an example.
