Regular IR Verbs in the Imperfect Tense

The imperfect tense is used to express what was happening, what used to happen or to give a description in the past. There are two different sets of endings to form the imperfect tense: one set for AR verbs and a common set to form the ER and IR verbs imperfect tense. To form the imperfect with IR verbs, take off the 'ir' and add the ‘ER & IR’ imperfect endings. Here is the example with 'salir':

Salía - I was going out, used to go out

Salía - I was going out, used to go out

Salías - you were going out, used to go out

Salías - you were going out, used to go out

Salía - she was going out, used to go out

Salía - she was going out, used to go out

Salíamos - we were going out, used to go out

Salíamos - we were going out, used to go out

Salíais - you were going out, used to go out

Salíais - you were going out, used to go out

Salían - they were going out, used to go out

Salían - they were going out, used to go out
