Proximity Sensors
Proximity sensors measure the distance or presence of an object in their detection range.

Proximity
- Proximity sensors determine whether an object is within the sensor's proximity.
- In some cases, proximity sensors provide a sign of how far away the object is.

Distance measurement
- The distance measurement is typically in units like millimetres (mm) or centimetres (cm).
- The distance measurement can either be discrete (binary on/off) or continuous.
- This depends on the sensor type and application.

Robotics
- In robotics, proximity sensors detect obstacles or objects in the robot's path.
- This allows the robot to avoid collision and navigate through its environment.
- Proximity sensors are used in automatic doors.

Vehicles
- Proximity sensors are used in parking assistance systems in vehicles.
- The proximity sensors alert the driver when the car is getting too close to an obstacle during parking.

Smartphones
- Many smartphones have proximity sensors near the earpiece.
- The proximity sensors detect when the phone is held to the ear during a call.
