At this time, many hospitals were run by the Church. They focused on offering hospitality to travellers, people on religious pilgrimages and the sick, rather than treating illness. They provided fresh food, a clean bed, the chance to rest and plenty of opportunities to pray to God to be healed. Unless you were seriously ill you would probably get better in a Medieval hospital because the conditions there were better than at home.
