Issues with Sturton-le-Steeple

There are few services in the village itself and limited public transport connections.

Services and transport

Services and transport

  • There are few community assets in the village: a village hall, butchers shop, post office, playing field, two churches and The Reindeer Inn Public House.
  • There are limited public transport connections.
  • Public bus services are few in number and over 90% of those who travel to work do so by private car.
Alternative energy

Alternative energy

  • Residents believe the landscape around the village is attractive and needs to be protected.
  • Recent proposals for biomass units, wind farms and solar panel farms have been strongly rejected by the locals.
  • Small-scale solar panels on roofs are favoured by many.
New housing

New housing

  • Proposals for new housing developments have been resisted less than alternative energy, though there is a view that these should be detached or semi-detached houses or small sheltered accommodation.
  • Proposals for a large residential home have been strongly rejected.
  • Almost all residents support provision of faster broadband but the majority is not in favour of relaxing planning regulations to create more employment opportunities, such as small industrial units.
