Evaluating Geopolitical Intervention
Geography: Edexcel A Level, topic 10.4.3
Variables to Evaluate Geopolitical Interventions
A range of variables can be used to evaluate geopolitical interventions.

Human development
- Factors like:
- Life expectancy.
- Provision of healthcare.
- Literacy rates.
- Access to safe water.
- Sanitation.
- Per capita GDP/GNI.
- These can be used to see if a geopolitical intervention has had any positive effects.

Human rights
- Factors like:
- Freedom of speech.
- Gender equality.
- Democratic elections.
- Programmes for minorities, refugees and asylum seekers.

Combination is best
- It is best to combine a mixture of human development and human rights variables.
- It is easier to use variables for which statistical data are available.
- Progress in human development is much easier to measure than progress in human rights.
- Human rights are more qualitative than quantifiable, but not less significant.
