Possessive Adjectives

Possessive adjectives are words which tell us who owns the noun. In French, possessive adjectives change if the noun is masculine or feminine or plural.

    • mon frère - my brother
    • mon ami - my friend (who is a boy)
'My' for feminine singular nouns

  • 'My' translates to 'ma' when the noun is feminine singular.
    • ma tante - my aunt
    • ma mère - my mother
  • 'My' translates to 'mon' when the noun is feminine singular and begins with a vowel.
    • mon amie - my friend (who is a girl)

  • 'My' translates to 'mes' when the noun is plural.
  • 'My' translates to 'mes' for both singular and plural nouns that are plural.
