Plural Adjectives

French adjectives

French adjectives

  • In French, an adjective must 'agree' with the noun it is describing.
  • This means that when figuring out the spelling of an adjective, you must ask yourself two things:
    • Is the noun being described masculine or feminine?
    • Is the noun being described singular or plural?
Making adjectives plural

Making adjectives plural

  • To make an adjective plural in French, you usually have to add an 's'.
    • un crayon bleu - a blue pencil
    • deux crayons bleus - two blue pencils
    • un crayon noir - a black pencil
    • deux crayons noirs - two black pencils
Feminine plural adjectives

Feminine plural adjectives

  • If a noun is feminine, the adjective gets a feminine ending.
  • If the noun is also plural, the adjective gets a plural ending too.
    • The feminine ending is usually an '-e'.
    • The plural ending is usually an '-s'.
