Nouns
A noun is a person, place or thing. In French, there are two groups: masculine and feminine. All nouns in French will belong to one of the groups.

Saying 'a'
- There are different words for ‘a’ depending on which group a noun is in.
- Masculine nouns use 'un' for the word 'a'.
- un jour → a day
- Feminine nouns use 'une'.
- une nuit → a night

Saying 'the'
- There are different words for ‘the’ depending on which group a noun is in.
- Masculine nouns use le.
- le jour → the day
- Feminine nouns use la.
- la nuit → the night

Using l'
- Nouns which begin with a vowel or a silent 'h' use l’ for masculine and feminine.
- le + an → l'an (masculine) = the year
- la + heure → l'heure (feminine) = the hour
