What are Conjunctions?
Conjunctions are words that help connect a phrase or sentence. For example, in English these would be 'and, but, also'.

- Conjunctions can be used in the middle of a sentence:
- Tengo un perro y un gato.
- I have a dog and a cat.
- Tengo un perro y un gato.
- Or they can be used at the start of a sentence, to follow on from the last sentence.
- Tengo un perro y un gato. Pero prefiero el perro que el gato.
- I have a dog and a cat. But I prefer the dog to the cat.
- Tengo un perro y un gato. Pero prefiero el perro que el gato.

- When the word after and, 'y' in Spanish, begins with an 'i' or 'hi', then it changes to 'e'.
- El libro es emocionante y interesante → El libro es emocionante e interesante.
- The book is exciting and interesting.
- Mis hijos y hijas se llevan bien → Mis hijos e hijas se llevan bien.
- My sons and daughters get on well.
- El libro es emocionante y interesante → El libro es emocionante e interesante.

- When the word after or, 'o'in Spanish, begins with an 'o' or 'ho', then it changes to 'u'.
- Hay siete o ocho manzanas → hay siete u ocho manzanas.
- There are seven or eight apples.
- ¿Hotel o hostal? → ¿Hotel u hostal?
- Hotel or hostel?
- Hay siete o ocho manzanas → hay siete u ocho manzanas.
