Outcome of the War of Independence

After 1783, the United States of America was independent from British control.

A new government

After 1783, the 13 Colonies was no longer ruled by King George III of Britain.
Instead they elected a president, George Washington.
The Colonies renamed themselves the 'United States of America'.
- The nation had to create their own government and learn how to rule themselves.

The American War of Independence showed that a nation will want more and more independence over time.
The 13 colonies were one of many colonies in the British Empire to do this.

People leaving the United States of America

Not everyone wanted to be in the new United States of America.
Many people went to Canada as they still wanted to be part of the British Empire.
